A bright day - but cool night on the way!

The weather, currently.

A large and very slow-moving storm system continues to push east, dropping heavy rain in the Ottawa Valley through tonight. There are dry conditions for us into the GTA with mainly sunny skies early Wednesday morning and a wake-up temperature near 16°C. There will be some scattered clouds in the afternoon, but overall a bright day with a forecast high of 24°C. The UV index will be 7 or high. Although the wind will be light, it will be from the north pushing in some much cooler air.

Wednesday night: mainly clear with a low of just 8°C. This will mark the coolest night of the season so far. Parts of cottage country will be even cooler with lows in the single digits.

Global warming could likely still trigger multiple climate ”tipping points,” even if countries meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, according to a new study in Science published Thursday.

The study revealed that even if we meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of keeping global warming at 1.5°C is not enough to avoid the danger of climate change. According to the study, tipping points, if crossed, will lead to irreversible, self-perpetuating changes.

Tipping points include the die-off of low-latitude coral reefs, greenhouse gas emissions thawing permafrost, the melting of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet and the shutdown of the ocean current which includes the Gulf Stream, to name a few.
